Persephone’s innocence and development into a more independent woman, and Hades from dark and menacing to kind and protective make this a really enjoyable read. If you’re a fan of greek mythology with a modern take and some smut then this is perfect for you. The only fantasy elements were the mythological names and the vague mentions of magic. It felt like the author originally wrote the book as a contemporary romance but at the last minute marketed it as fantasy romance. The side characters are all very enjoyable additions to the book and the other Gods and Goddesses that make appearances could have their own spinoffs in my opinion. I did like the beginning of the book but as I read on, I was disappointed. Written by the same author as King of Battle and Blood it is similar with its spicy scenes and dramatic twists. There are a few Hades and Persephone retellings available and I picked this version as it seemed to be the one most people have been talking about. Ebook A Touch of Darkness (Hades & Persephone, 1) in English is available for free here. Her path crosses with Hades and their lives become forever entwined. Persephone is the naive college student basking in the joys of independence, being free of her mother’s overbearing presence she sets out to explore what the city has to offer. A Touch of Darkness is a Persephone and Hades retelling, which sets the story in the modern city of New Athens and sees Hades become a secretive and seductive nightclub owner.
